New Boston Night Hike

In normal years, after we gain new scouts that have bridged over from Cub Scouts, Troop 99 usually holds a Mahatma Night as a big get-together for the troop, which is a fun sleepover night full of activities, video games, food, and merriment. This usually happens in March. In this Covid-19 year, we didn't gain our new scouts until April, and since we preferred to do an outdoor activity instead of Mahatma Night, the troop decided on a night hike.

On a beautiful 73 degree day, the hike departed at 5pm from Lang Station on Gregg Mill Road in New Boston, just off Rt. 13. The hike started off working on Scout skills and new scouts were able to work towards earning their Firem'n Chit and Totin' Chit.

As it got dark, the scouts hiked down the New Boston Rail Trail to the New Boston Fairgrounds, where they climbed up the hill where they shoot off the fireworks. There, they took a little break and did some stargazing as the sky allowed, and then headed back to Lang Station.

Wrapping up at 10:00pm, the scouts had a full evening of fun camaraderie and scouting skills. We look forward to an active spring and summer of outdoor scouting activities!

Thank you to Troop Historian Daniel F. for some of these beautiful photos! We are thankful for your contributions!
